Examples of Work
Direct and coordinate the property surveys performed by the surveyors and crews from the Roadway Design Division and the District and Division Geodetics Crews. Coordinate the property survey requirements, agreements and payment for surveys performed by the County Surveyor. Work with the County Surveyor and State Surveyor to resolve surveys which are in conflict to establish correct and proper ownerships. Supervise and review all survey results, plats and associated mathematical calculations submitted by parties supervised. Abstract records, surveys, deeds and other relevant data to accumulate information necessary to locate, restore, re-establish or establish property monuments. Engage in land surveys involving government corners, section corners, and lot corners to determine sub-divisional and property lines for use in determining suitable descriptions for conveyance documents. Perform calculations to determine location relationship of property corners to the centerline of proposed highway improvement projects and prepare plats and descriptions depicting same. Locate, perpetuate, restore and re-establish property monuments including section corners. Prepare plats, maps and field notes of all required surveys to be made of record in the State Surveyor’s office with the approval and subsequently in the proper office of the appropriate county. Prepare plats and testify as a land surveyor witness for court cases or property line disputes. Determine the state line location for projects adjacent to or in conjunction with adjoining states.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Four years experience as a Registered Surveyor. Incumbent will be commissioned as a Deputy State Surveyor by the State Surveyor.
OTHER: All applicants will need to complete a take home written exam as part of the selection process. Valid Driver’s License and overnight travel is required. Regular and reliable attendance is also required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE OF: Survey methods, techniques, and procedures and Nebraska Survey Law; requirements for state line surveys as well as all other governmental and subdivision surveys; detailed understanding of the State Plane Coordinate System. Skill in: the use of transits and related surveying instruments; the location and identification of land monuments placed during surveys over 100 years ago; such corners may be pipes, stones, bottles, fire pits, etc. Ability to: interpret technical data; prepare technical reports; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; supervise the work of others; deal effectively with District Geodetic staff, county surveyors and county commissioners, and the County Register of Deeds.
