Definition – Island

Traditionally, an island is defined as “a permanent body of land, separate and distinct from the mainland, and above mean high water. An island must be surrounded by distinct channels of the river, which separate the island from the mainland.” U.S. v. Wilson, 523 F.Supp. 874 (1981). See also Summerville v.
